Market Drayton Town 2-6 Manchester United XI

A Manchester United XI romped to an easy 6-2 victory in a pre-season clash with non-league outfit Market Drayton Town.

The Red Devils were never truly tested by the Shropshire side, and eased to triumph thanks in part to goals from Bebe and Federico Macheda.

United started the game brightly and should have been ahead two minutes in, when young Norwegian striker Joshua King was denied by Market Drayton keeper Matty Cohan, who performed heroics to snatch the ball away from the 20-year-old's feet.

However, 12 minutes later the visitors got their noses in front when midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe found the net from close range. The lead was extended midway through the first half when, after spurning a number of good chances, Portuguese midfielder Bebe headed past Cohan.

Two quickly became three as Italian midfielder Davide Petrucci netted with a deflected low drive just before the interval.

The rout was well and truly on when Jesse Lingard added a fourth with a beautiful long range effort three minutes into the second period, but the home side stemmed the tide momentarily as Craig Ryan netted from the penalty spot.

However, their respite was shortlived and Lingard soon increased United's tally when he latched on to a Petrucci pass to grab a double and United's fifth, before striker Federico Macheda turned smartly to fire home number six.

There was still time for a late consolation for Market Drayton though, as Tom Rogers completed the scoring to cap off a highly entertaining contest.
